Froth: Paige Julia

This was my first Froth gig in Melbourne in May 2025 at QQQ St Park.

Featuring Paige Julia with support from Kennii T, Lucy Lies, Micca and Wrist Control

The Stage was co-designed with Calos from Angels Studios. It started out as a series of boxes and evolved into a abstract crab design, I call Pāpaka (crab in Te Reo Māori).

I designed the stage in Resolume, using slice transforms. Once each shape was finalized, I split up the design into sections and projected them onto sheets of white core flute. The pieces were then assembled together, using zip ties and a wooden frame. This ensured a very light weight design, since the venue only had a weak curtain rail we could rig from.

On the night, rigging and projection mapping went well. There is a LED screen behind the DJ, the Pāpaka design outside the booth and another projector on the side wall, which mirrored the LED screen.

I was joined on the visuals by Tor (@tormachintyre). He VJed the first half of the night and I preformed for the second half.

Overall, it was a very successful gig. I’m stoked with how well the stage design looked and how the warping from the slice transforms, give it depth and make the visuals follow the curves of the stage.
